Can a parent save their child from addiction?

The death of Amy Winehouse has once again highlighted the danger of drink and drug addiction. Mitch and Janis Winehouse's battles to cure their daughter of her addiction are shared by thousands of parents up and down the country.

Many parents reading of the death at the weekend of singer Amy Winehouse will have thought to themselves: "What would I do if my son or daughter was an addict?"

There is nothing you can do..the addiction takes control and ruins them..they have to want to give up themselves or there's no point in even starting...best bet is to not even start..educate the kids in all what goes wrong and scare them into not starting

i tried my hardest to show my sons how bad smoking was

eldest smokes regular now,and i know youngest has tried it

i always had a rule that i would never stop them doing anything i did myself.luckely the only thing ive done is smoke and drink

had one brother that died and drugs were his favourite thing..there's really no telling them
