Teen pregnancy 'may be contagious'

Teenage pregnancy could be "contagious" for girls influenced by their elder sisters who have children while young, new research has suggested.


A team studied the records of thousands of women and their families over decades and found that those with elder sisters who had children in their teenage years were twice as likely to do the same as those without.

I don't have a sister but I was a teenage mum.I have never regretted it.I "grew" up with my kids.

and good of you,
but todays teenage mums do it on purpose i think,house benifits etc,
they dont want the partner to go with it

I was married to his Dad....and still am many years later.We lived in 2 small rooms for 4 years until we got a house.....but we were & still are in luv

I do think a lot of young girls do have a baby to get a house though.

teenage mum here and no sister and like ley I was also married the dad and we are still married (this was in the 80s)...my daughter's friend has an older sister who had a baby young at 16 and their mum was 15..the mum was in the newspaper recently talking about something and was mentioned in the article about how much she enjoyed being a gran (though she's in her early 30s) and the comments about the article were all people telling her she should be ashamed of herself and that it was disgusting..she's still married to the guy..they have 4 kids..he works and she's at college..I find that the minute you mention teenage pregnancy people will think of girls with no guys getting houses and benefits but no everyone is like that..over a hundred years ago (and more..ye olde days) it was normal for women to have kids young (very young as they also died young) but it's only frowned on now..and of course one of the famous love stories ever (though she never had a baby) the lovely Juliet (who loved romeo) was 13..rant over

Hmm this is so true (but not for all teen mums).

My cousin is 20 and expecting her 2nd baby, she had her 1st at 17, her sister had her 1st at 16, the mother had her 1st at 18, the gran had her 1st at 17 (sensing a pattern).

oh and just to add to confusion the only one im truly related to is my preg cousin as she is my uncles kid the rest are non blood related to me (but they still like family).
