| Justice Secretary Ken Clarke has said a householder who knifes a burglar will not have committed a criminal offence under plans to clarify the law on self-defence in England.

| I too wouldn't want to hurt, or God forbid kill anyone, but what ever happened to the 'English mans home is his castle'.. To know many defending their family, home and property got brought to trial for doing just that has always been a gripe to me, the burglar should have thought about what could happen to him/her before they even went into the property, but of course many wrong-doers will blame drink, drugs, or 'voices' for telling them to do that. | |

| I would kill if anyone threatened my family! In my home !! but being an ex Soldier I would get charged anyway! Obviously no one wants to kill another but where would you draw the line before or after a member of your family got seriously hurt or even killed ?? the Law as it stands is clear enough "Reasonable Force" now it is reasonable to kill someone trying to kill you ! but could you have disarmed the other person without killing them?? that is the grey area which not only the police but the CPS do not use thier right of discretion on!!! if these idiots could come to some sort of sensible guideline there would be no need for new laws!!1 | |

| Yes it is, and surely the powers that be know that too many bad guys are getting away with so much these days, brought to trial, some anyway, then basically told to pack a toothbrush next time that they are before them, or, as is known, if some are taken into custody, the majority mix with the same and come out more knowledgeable than when they went in on how to break into property faster. The never ending circle rolls along. | |
