1960s pop star PJ Proby has denied benefit fraud of more than £47,000.
The 72-year-old, of Twyford, near Evesham in Worcestershire, whose real name is James Marcus Smith, is charged with nine counts of fraud.
The allegations relate to claims for pension credit, housing benefit and council tax benefit, between November 2002 and March 2008.
The singer, originally from the US, has been bailed and will appear at Worcester Crown Court on 6 March 2012.
PJ Proby had hits in the early 1960s with songs such as Hold Me and Together.
