| Mothers are harder on their daughters than their sons, according to a survey by a parenting website. Is this your experience?
Netmums found mothers were twice as likely to be critical of their daughters than their sons - even though half of the 2,672 mothers questioned said they thought it was wrong to treat boys and girls differently.
Boys were more likely to be described with positive traits such as funny, cheeky, playful and loving, while girls were given the labels stroppy, eager to please, serious and argumentative. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/haveyoursay/2010/10/do_sons_have_it_easier_than_da.html

| the stroppy and argue thing is more a hormone thing with girls..teenage girls are the worst..as I have one in the house and 2 older boys..I can say though that she's not more trouble than the boys just a different character..she's more mouthy..as for being harder..well that's because u never know what can happen to girls when they go out nowadays..I live in small village in the south of scotland and last week there was a rape in one village and a serious assault on another girl a month ago..if it's not safe in these quiet villages then I'll be hard on my daughter to keep her safe | |

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/haveyoursay/2010/10/do_sons_have_it_easier_than_da.html I'm trying really hard not to repeat the same mistakes I see other parents doing, including my own. I'm trying to give my girls loads of praise for thinking critically and solving things on their own as well as their manners and appearance. Same as my son. Because of their different personalities, I find that my kids respond differently to praise. One likes verbal praise, another likes hugs, and another likes visual praise (stickers, fun pictures). It gets tricky when one thinks another is "getting special treatment".
