Anyone Remember..

I like trotting out that list from time to time. :D The first entry was the one about movie special effects; my late brother [rest his soul] and I were watching "Star Wars" one night and remembering old times, and I made that observation. The list grew from there.

Any of the girls remember Belaire or Margos hair laquer which was bought in littrle plastic containers which had to be cut at the corner, very carfully so it didn't all squirt out! then put into a spray bottle... :smile2:

Its Ferguson but I don't know what model.........My husband bought it in the 1950s........we obviously don't use it now but as far as I know it still works. The tapes are full of family gatherings, etc.

What I remember most about Belair Hairspray was the fact that I had to rub my hair with either a bath cube or borax to get the hairspray out. Otherwise it was all big white clumps. And didn't the spray bottle get into a shocking state? Oh joy!

I do remember hairspray in those squeezy bottles, my god your hair felt like it was glued into place Lol

I remember them but we never had one but my friends mam had the nearest thing to it!

How about the tin bath in front of the fire and the oiutside loo with squares of newspaper hanging on a piece of string on a nail?? usually a 6 inch one

i rememder the outside toilet with the newspaper cut into squares and hung from a nail, i also remember my poor grandad sitting in the loo and some young boys sticking a banger in the keyhole all we heard was a bang................boy was he mad he chased them up the road

umping crackers? we used to light them at bonfires and then watch as they jumped all over the place! how dangerous was that!

I dont remember us having a wind up gramaphone, but do remember the radiograms and my dad having the 78's records.

Another thing is, does anyone remember party lines on the home telephone years ago? I remember when we first got a telephone, I presume it was cheaper to have a party line back then :dunno: but we shared a line with the family across the road and if you picked up the receiver and they were using it, you couldn't, you had to wait until they had finished their call...... My only complaint about that was, I wish we had been sharing with someone that had a bit more exciting telephone conversations to listen in to.

how about putting a card in the bicycle spokes , you pretended you had a motor bike .n we used to press a potato into some one s car exhaust. when the pressure built up youhad invented a grenade launcher.

My Nan also had an outside loo with newpaper squares.Her's was at the bottom of the garden you froze ya bum off

We had a radiogram Candy and still do have some 78's whci are specail to me

Oh I'd forgotten about the lumps and borax! ..bath cubes!! now they're not seen these days are they, I used to get some from my auntie every Christmas when I was a teenager

At least once a year, the whole school would queue up in the corridor and wait to be seen by Nitty Nora - otherwise known as the "nit nurse" - who would poke around pupils' heads looking for the telltale signs of an infestation of head lice.

I remember and dreaded it :shock:

We all used to sit there biting our nails and hoping we didn't have them, you'd look around and see most of the kids scratching their heads (think it was all in the mind) and there was always one kid who she asked to stay behind after we went, then we knew that kid had nits so we used to stay away from them looking back now, I could cry for that kid, imagining if it were me

I'm glad they stopped it.

my mother used to get the old debac soap and comb out every bloody sunday jesus she was a rough
we always went to school monday morning with our scalps red raw
and i once stopped at my aunt jeans and uncle jims in maybole
and jesus my uncle jim(sweeps dad) nearly took the skin of inbetween my toes scubbing them
i was about 5 i think :dunno:

sounds like hard times when you think about it now :shock: Lol I honestly dont remember ever getting nits as a child, but my daughter had long hair and often got them passed on to her, it got an expensive business buying the bloody shampoo all the time! :furious: One thing less to worry about when they have left school I spose Lol
