| Back in December I posted about the 7 yr old autistic boy who wandered off with his dog. Sadly after 2 days in the woods, James Delorey was found alive but died in hospital later. Searchers were able to find him after his dog Chance had left his side to return home and they followed the prints back to James. From the marks in the snow they were able to tell that Chance had stayed huddled next to him under a tree through the first major snowstorm of the season and only left once it had stopped snowing. Whether by luck or intuition, Chance waited until his trail would remain visible. From the story - Quote :
- A family dog that helped lead searchers to an autistic boy who was lost in Nova Scotia is one of the latest inductees into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame.
..... Chance received more than 400 nominations for the annual honour — a new record.
Since its creation in 1968, more than 140 animals have been inducted into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame, which recognizes life-saving feats of pets and service animals. Chance Inducted to Hall of Fame | |

| A very story for sure, but Chance was a local hero in our eyes, and it's good to see that the nation felt the same. I think I posted this before, but one of the newspapers here has an excellent political cartoonist named Bruce MacKinnon. He seems to capture the emotions of the province in his daily cartoons. This one is from the day after James died. | |
