| Lessons about sex, relationships and health are not good enough in 25% of schools in England, inspectors say. Do you think standards could be improved?

| I think schools need to add the part where gay people do in fact exist, otherwise children will grow up not knowing this fact and then when some have same sex feelings.. they will feel lost for not knowing what is going on and would be too afraid to ask someone about it in fear of being rejected by friends and family. | |

| thats a fair point hotspot, and i must admit i agree with you, being gay is not a choice, its already in you,the trouble with the uk they are so pompus and think the country would be in uproar if we informed our children that gay people existed | |

| I bet you did. The schools around here are doing a good job with the sex education. My youngest grandson is 11 and he knows a lot more than I did when I was 16....................I was such an innocent ................. I think the schools have pretty much got it covered. But I firmly believe that children should be able to go home and talk to their parents about what they're learning. Unfortunately not all parents have that kind of open relationship with their kids. I don't think there's much chance of the subject of homosexuality being dealt with in the schools................there would probably be a bit of an outcry if that happened because so many people in this country bury their heads in the sand and try to convince themselves that it doesn't exist. I'm a member of one or two Over 60 forums and I'm absolutely disgusted by the amount of homophobia I come across..............mainly, I have to say, among the men on the forums. I don't know what's wrong with the men in my generation but an awful lot of them seem to be so narrow minded. | |

my feelings exactly! Personally I think that sex education is forced on kids when they're not ready for it....my grandaughter was 10 when she had her first sex lesson and now she's 13 she has spoken to me about it and said what they were told and shown at 10 scared the whole class!! why would 10 year olds want to see a photo of an erect penis! I think it's disgusting..........Prob old fashioned in my view. I do believe that they need sex education but not too early, it just puts things into their young heads too soon.. We had what was called Mothercraft and Housecraft....we were taught by the school nurse how to bath a baby and wash a hanky ...I can't remember how I found out about sex and what age I was at the time ...... I agree that gay relationships should be talked about because of all the kids who will be struggling with those feelings, although it's on the telly all the time now so kids wont suffer like they did years ago...it is accepted by the young these days. | |
