There's no reason children can't have all these things without becoming addicted to them. Its a question of rules and boundaries. Its down to the parents to limit the amount of time kids spend on these electronic babysitters. Responsible parents will do it and get their children interested in other things as well as social and outdoor activities.
Its all down to parents taking the time to structure their children't lives. Unfortunately too many parents now are not interested in doing this and the kids are free to spend as much time as they want doing whatever they want, which quite often means playing video games.
