What would you do if you found out

that your 12yr old daughter or son is going to become a parent?

That's very difficult to answer unless you're in that position breeze. I tend to think that there is a serious lack of communication between parent and child when something like this happens. I know teenagers are notorious for blocking the lines of communication between them and their parents but it wouldn't normally happen as early as age 12. In my opinion its also important to be honest with your kids, especially when they start going to senior school and its equally as important to keep a close and friendly relationship going with them. That way, they will confide in you and ask you any questions they need answered and so lessen the chances of something like this happening to them. Obviously, there are exceptions, as there are in everything but I hold by the conviction that communication has to be the most important factor.

I think you are absolutely right mazzie you do need to be able to commuicate with your kid at an early age.

thats a pretty good summing up mazzie, my pal s daughter got pregnant at 13 had the baby at 14. i dunno what was goin through their heads at that time but she had the baby and she brought him up on her own,, with her mom n dads help of course.but she was just a child herself then. and i really,guess it stole a good part of her growing up n her teen years.

Honestly, I would do everything I could to encourage the girl to give up the baby (as right now I have a 10 yr old son) I've thought this through when my sister had a pregnancy scare at 15 (a year ago)

I have been a single parent now for 10 years, and even though I was 22 when he was born, I know how difficult raising a child is. How much I've had to give up for him. I know that even if the father says they will be there to help, that doesn't always make it so. And at 12, there is no way that I could expect the couple to stay together to raise the child. I would possibly even offer to adopt the child, so that the parents could continue to grow as teenagers.

I would have to say that I would also encourage them to give up the baby..I know there was a girl in my son's year at school(she'll be 21 now) who at 15 had a baby and she ended up leaving her with her mother and moved away..it does waste your childhood..says me who had a baby at 17..as much as I love my oldest son I wish I'd waited..I'm forever telling my kids to get out there and see something of the world and enjoy all they have before settling down
