A member of staff has been suspended after a dummy was found taped to a baby's face at Stafford Hospital.
Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust confirmed police were investigating the incident.
Colin Ovington, director of nursing and midwifery at the trust, said: "Fortunately, the baby was unharmed.
"We have a zero tolerance approach to poor patient care and we take immediate, appropriate action."
Staffordshire Police confirmed the incident happened earlier this month and the baby boy was four months old at the time.
