The family of a newborn baby boy who died after he was bitten just once by his grandparents' Jack Russell dog, have spoken of their devastation.

Tragic eight-day-old Harry Harper died from his injuries after the pet pooch snapped at the lad while he stayed at his grandparents' home.

Relatives of Harry said in a statement: “As a family we are absolutely devastated by Harry’s death and have no words to describe the loss we have suffered.

“We have no wish to speak publicly about yesterday’s events and would ask that we are left in peace to grieve and begin to deal with our loss."

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the semi-detached property in Woodside Road, Ketley, Telford, Shropshire, just after 8am on Tuesday.

I'm sorry, but where were the grandparents while all this was happening? If I saw my dog snapping at my child, i'd be doing everything in my power to get the dog away before it got ugly.
