THE action of a young man, who nipped one of his partner’s breasts in a garlic press and put it down to horseplay, was described as “extremely unpleasant” by a sheriff today.
Angelo Begg (21) was also taken to task by Sheriff Andrew Berry for wearing a T-shirt sporting the words PORN STAR.
Begg appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court today, and admitted assaulting Tanya Verity on Friday. The incident occurred in the home of Miss Verity’s mother at Tanhead, Scarfskerry. The couple live in a caravan there, but use the house facilities, it was stated.
The assault took place in the kitchen while they were making dinner, in the early evening. Senior fiscal depute, David Barclay said that for reasons that were unclear, Begg picked up the garlic press, put it against his partner’s left breast and pressed the press, inflicting a small bruise and causing her to cry.
The police were contacted and said Mr Barclay: “When interviewed, Begg indicated he meant no harm and suggested there had been some similar horse-play in the past.” He was said to be remorseful.
Mr Barclay added that, not withstanding the nature of the charge, there was no suggestion of any sexual implications.
Sheriff Berry, observed that the accused has a record for assault and failing to comply with conditions of bail. Begg was remanded in custody pending a social inquiry report which will be submitted to the court on July 6.
Before he left the dock, the accused was warned by the sheriff who said: “If you return to court wearing that T-shirt, I would be entitled to conclude that it is a contempt of court and you might find yourself facing prison.”
