A MOTORIST who denied knowing he had hit a six-year-old boy at nearly 60mph admitted yesterday that he deliberately left the scene — leaving the youngster to die.
Owen Wightman was thrown 75ft when student Peter Renshaw, 23, hit him at nearly twice the 30mph speed limit.
Renshaw didn’t brake, but turned a corner, stopped to check the damage to his car, then drove off at speed.
He handed himself in to cops after three days, claiming he thought he had hit a pot hole.
But police experts found scratches and dents on his Fiat Seicento that they believed were added AFTER the crash, Leeds Crown Court heard.
Renshaw, of Emley, West Yorks, last week admitted causing death by dangerous driving — but denied disguising the damage and failing to stop and report the accident.
But after hearing evidence about the extra damage, Renshaw dramatically changed his plea to guilty to the failing to stop and report charges.
Judge Geoffrey Marson warned Renshaw that he faces jail when he is sentenced today.
