| Chief constables from two police forces have been given approval to order their officers to retire as part of cost-cutting measures. Should people be forced to retire even if they don't want to?
Police need to cut wage bills to find savings demanded by the government. Fully-sworn officers cannot be made redundant because they are Crown servants and not employees.

| I don't think anyone should be forced to retire from any job unless they want to. | |

| I know a few old people over here that have to deliver Newspapers in all weathers just so that they can afford to put a bit of Marge on their bread and that is after working for 40 odd years and paying into the system. Some of these old people havn't got any other choice. I even know an old lady (71 years old) that rumages around rubbish bins looking for bottles and Beer, Coke cans to collect the deposit. It is bloody heartbreaking. These are the people that have built both of our Countries up after the War to be put on the scrap heap as soon as they hit 65. I teach Toolmaking at an Technical College and if I want to know something, I ask a mate of mine (an old toolmaker 70) for advice. If they are still fit in the brain and want to work (not like some of these young people who think that if they can wiggle their arses around and try and sing they are intitled to be rich) LET THEM:
sorry about the rant. | |
