In recent years as in every other public sector job in the country, the amount of paperwork in the police force has increased a hundred-fold. This takes up precious time which could be better used policing our streets. I also think that putting bobbies on the beat in smaller communities would go a long way to cutting down on antisocial behaviour. They seem to roll this system out occasionally but its not a long term option at the moment.
Apart from that, I think the police do a damn fine job but I think its sometimes a thankless job because, the judicial system and the courts don't carry through by punishing offenders according to thei crimes. It must be soul destroying for policemen to be rounding up criminals and then watching the system allow them to walk away.
