PostSubject: Family history   Family history EmptyWed May 05, 2010 12:40 pm

I've been doing my family history and have got back as far as the 1700's so far on my mums side of the family. I'm finding it really interesting and love finding about members of my family that I never knew about. I was even able to print out a copy of when one of my grandmas brothers medals he'd been given when he died in the first world war.

Is anyone else interested in their own family history?

I know most of mine. Bloodline stretches to Asia TWICE without touching, one of my great-grandfathers, Sir Thomas McIlwraith was Primer of Queensland 3 times!

try looking on something like ancestry.com Candy. You can do searches on there for free though some stuff you do have to pay for. It would be good for getting you started at least. Start with your own parents and siblings, then their parents and siblings and just keep going until you cant remember any of them. Then you need to start looking at censuses and finding them on census sheets which you can look at on ancestry.com

Well I think looking up about my parents ancesters might be both a bit difficult but interesting. Lol I dont think my mother knew either of her parents and my father...I think...as it was never talked about then..was born out of wedlock, as the say and took my grandmothers maiden surname. But anyway, I will have a go sometime and see what I can find out. :)

my Great Granfather "built the gallows for the man they Could not hang"!! It seems he had to move around a lot due to his job of building the Gallows, he travelled around building Gallows and he is Mentioned in the book about "Pierepoint" also on my mothers side her father had 13 brothers fighting in the same unit during "WW2" the youngest was not allowed to enlist as he had to run the family "Farm" we have gone back as far as "James the 1st/6th " who had an affair with one of my ancestors wives(Catriona) the ancestor concerned was known as the "Border king"(basically he was a thief /robber, who had the protection of James) strange what you find out about family!!
My Grandmother and Grandfather lived at opposite ends of the world for the last 35 years of thier lives , but never divorced seemingly they loved each other but were not in love(that is the same as my ex said to me Family history 44866)
