| Have yuu ever been burgled? If so, how did it make you feel and how did you cope with it?
I was burgled many years ago after my first marriage broke down and I was living on my own with my daughter, she'd have been about 6 at the time. I'd been out for the night with my mate and stayed at her house overnight, Rachael was at her dads. When I went home the next morning the chain was on the front door but I didnt think anything about it and eventually managed to get in to find everything upside down. I phoned my dad and he came straight down to see me and phoned the police.
I felt sick and just couldnt believe what had happened. I felt like I'd been violated and didnt want to be in the house. You know, for weeks afterwards I left the lights on the stairs all night and heard noises that werent there. Everytime I went out I felt as if those concerned were watching me and laughing at me. They were never caught so I never got anything back. Even now, 19 years later I still worry about it happening again and have to double check that all the doors are locked before I go to bed. If I hear a noise I lie there for ages listening to see if I hear it again even though I never do. | |

| Poor you livingdoll and (touch wood) no I haven't but my sister was once. She used to live not far from me and was round my house for the evening and when she went home she found someone had broken in. They did get the fella in the end as there had been quite a few burglary's in our area and although she didnt get her stuff back but he did have to pay her compensation. I think he got away without being sent to prison but another fell who was the one that received all the stolen goods from the burglaries got 18 months inside. My sister doesn't live there anymore, but I can see how traumatic it must be for you or anyone else that has that happen to them. :squeeze: | |

| I wouldnt wish it on anyone. Am glad they caught the guy who broke into your sisters. I left that house quite a few years later but only because I got married again and moved to another town. Decided I wasnt going to let them scare me away really in the end | |

| I grew up in a rough area so always knew to double check..never had it happen but we used to leave a window open (through the day) for the cat to come in and out..it was one of those small windows at the top of the main window..one morning when we got up our bin had been dragged to the window..so looked like somebody was trying their luck..but I always closed it at night..where we live now there's people who don't actually lock their doors at night..it's a small village so everybody know everyone elses business..sorry to hear it happened to u livingdoll | |

| I think the worst part about it was the fact that my engagement rinf and eternity ring from my first marriage that I had kept to give to my daughter when she was older and her christening bangle were stolen. They were the things that bothered me most, everything else could be replaced. Would you believe they also took one of each pair of earrings I had, why only one and not the other I'll never know | |

| We were burgled a lot of years ago when my kids were small. Its the worst feeling in the world. The feeling that these scumbags have been crawling all over your house gives you the creeps for months after. The police didn't get the ones who did mine but we found out much later who it was and......................lets just say they didn't get off completely. :bastard: | |

| I know the feeling well mazzie, we got burgled about 25 years ago and your right, it's a terrible feeling that doesn't leave you for a long time. It was a professional team that did it and they were tidy at least, but had been in every drawer and nook and crannie of the house, even the attic. Anyway they got caught as they had done a number of houses in our area (we lived in the country at that time) and went to trial and were found guilty. Unfortunately, we got nothing of our stuff back as they refused to give up the name of their fence. What made it worse for us was it happened at a time Joe was unemployed and we had no house insurance. A mistake i'll never make again, i'd starve now rather than cancel it. You live and learn eh? |
