| percy put this on his forum anybody got any idea,s whats happened
We have a few members in that neck of the woods... what on earth has happened here? It's such a quiet place Halkirk, or so it seemed. For this awful event to be visited upon the village shows nowhere is immune.
All it said on the BBC was a level crossing...train/car crash.

| That's awful wiseguy, it seems to have happened at about 2 O' clock this afternoon and as yet the three people killed(who were all in the car) haven't been named yet. It involved the Inverness to Wick/Thurso train, everyone on the train is unharmed they say. |

| We drove through that crossing the other day and my hubby slowed down as he went across it. I commented at the time that I speed as I find the crossing so scary. It is in an awkward place if the sky is bright the lights arent as visible. There should be a gate there. | |

| I find it hard to understand why we still have so many of these crossings with no barriers. How many more accidents have to happen before they address the problem. | |

It all boils down to cost for the companies. These crossings should have a gate which lowers before the train passes through. It only takes a momment's lapse in concentration chatting to others in the car etc, etc, to end up being another victim of these accidents. How much value can you put on a human life or in this case three?

| Alice you have just described many possible motor accidents not just these crossings - if yer driving you should be concentrating but I know is easier said than done. The crossings are a nightmare but I have seen an idiot at the crossing in Inverness weave round the gates when they were down to cross over! | |

| end of the day these crossings are out of date and should not be there its also up to the government to help finance bridges flyovers or under passes these crossing were designed for old bloody steam trains that went from town to town not bloody intercity 125 that you cant even hear coming to the last minute trust me ive seen a few in my past career and it would be financially viable for them to it against the costs of recovery | |
