Detainee violence leaves six hurt

Five prison officers were injured during disturbances at an immigration removal centre, it has emerged.

Weapons including home made knives, pool cues and balls were used when up to 50 detainees fought at Morton Hall in Lincolnshire, according to staff.

One detainee remains in hospital with serious head injuries.

The UK Border Agency insists Morton Hall is a safe place for detainees and staff, but union bosses fear an officer could be killed.

Glyn Travis, spokesperson for the POA union, which represents staff at the centre in Swinderby, said his members were in danger.

Its bad eh, its happening here as well, fights and riots and all that, i mean ok there is a argument as to how long they should be detained in these centers, but if there going to start violence they should be assessed more, whats stopping them from getting violent if there out in the public. I see both sides of the problem here, but i don't think there is an answer to it at the moment. And the guards shouldn't have to be targeted either.
