A teenager, who threatened to kick a sheriff’s throat in, has been given a Community Payback Order.
Paul Cannop (18) made the threat as he descended the staircase outside the courtroom at Wick Sheriff Court with two friends on 12th April this year.
He was overheard by two people, one of whom was alarmed enough to report him to police.
Cannop, 21 Holborn Avenue, Thurso, admitted making the threatening remark when he appeared at Dornoch Sheriff court today.
The case was called at Dornoch rather than Wick to avoid Cannop appearing before the sheriff he had made the threat against.
Procurator fiscal Roderick Urquhart said Cannop and his two friends had left Wick courtroom on 12th April in a manner described by one witness as “cocky.”
“The accused was heard to say ‘I am going to kick that f****** sheriff’s throat in’,” said the fiscal. “This happened on the staircase outside the court room and not in the room itself.
