Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb has died following a lengthy battle with cancer.

In a statement, Gibb's family said they were announcing his death with "great sadness".
Gibb, who had undergone intestinal surgery, notched up dozens of hits with brothers Maurice and Barry - as performers and writers - and sold more than 200 million records.
The statement said: "The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery.

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan, who rose to prominence playing a death row inmate in acclaimed film The Green Mile, has died at the age of 54.

The lead guitarist for rock group Starship, Mark Abrahamian, has died of a heart attack aged 46.

He collapsed following a concert in the US state of Nebraska on Sunday night, where Starship had opened for fellow bands Survivor and Boston, according to road manager Scott Harrison.

Abrahamian had been guitarist with Starship, whose hits include Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now, since 2000

ET confirms that the legendary comedian Phyllis Diller has passed away at the age of 95

Diller's agent, Fred Wostbrock, told ET, "I was her agent for twenty years. She was a pioneer. She paved the way for everybody, Joan Rivers, Ellen DeGeneres, Roseanne Barr, Chelsea Handler. She was the first." She passed away in her L.A home surrounded by her family members, and her longtime manager, Milton Suchin, told The Associated Press, "She died peacefully in her sleep with a smile on her face."

Coronation Street stars and fans have said a final farewell at the funeral of actor Bill Tarmey, who played Jack Duckworth in the ITV soap opera.

Nigel Pivaro, who played his son Terry, paid tribute to the actor during the service.

"Today the world is a little poorer for not having him with us and heaven's a little richer," he said.

"Thank you Bill for living such a wonderful life so fully and sharing it with all of us."

Tarmey was one of the show's best-loved actors for more than 30 years. He left the soap in 2010.

He died earlier this month in Tenerife, Spain, at the age of 71.

The funeral was held at the Albion United Reformed Church in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.
