San Angelo's Cinco de Mayo event today and Saturday celebrates May 5, 1862, when the outnumbered Mexican army stood its ground and won a major victory against a larger, better equipped French force in the Battle of Puebla. The victory helped Mexico eventually overthrow an attempted occupation by France
