Dorset libraries to be run by volunteers

Volunteers are set to take over the running of seven rural Dorset libraries in September which had originally been earmarked for closure.

The county council has approved business plans submitted by the seven community groups, who will fund and maintain the buildings.

IT services and a regular supply of new books would be provided by the council.

Two libraries in Corfe Castle and Portland Underhill, Dorset, are still scheduled to close.

I have a problem with this kind of thing. Its all very well to say at least the libraries will stay open but I personally think its a huge cop-out by the councils. They need to get their budgets sorted out and stop spending huge amounts of money on stuff that's not needed and start spending it wisely. Of course the Government at Westminster are no better..............they also throw money around at stuff that's unnecessary and then there's none left for the important stuff in the country. Makes you wonder where it will all end.

If this library thing is allowed to go on, which it looks like it will.................then I think you're right wg, and it will just be the tip of the iceberg.
