| It's our lives, we should be able to do what we want with it; It's called suicide. | |

| There are numerous debates about the legality of assisted suicide, some people argue that assisted suicide is immoral. They have religious objections to assisted suicide, whilst others believe that they should be able to end their suffering in a manner and time which suits them and die with dignity. | |

| In my opinion this should be a personal choice. MSP Margot MacDonald is once again trying to legalise it. She tried and failed last year and she's having another go. She has a progressive illness and this is a bit of a personal campaign for her. But I think she's right, I think anyone should be able to draw up a legal document when they're of sound mind to allow this to be done. In my opinion, others don't have the right to decide you should live on in a vegetative state if you don't want to. Our own wishes need to be taken into account. Isn't this what 'human rights' is all about? As for objections on religious grounds..............do they ever consider the possibility that not everyone is religious. Some people don't have any belief whatsoever..................personal choice, plain and simple. Its time they realised this. | |

| The General Medical Council is launching its first ever guidelines on assisted suicide.
The new guidelines will help the GMC decide if doctors should face a disciplinary panel if they are alleged to have encouraged or assisted suicide.
A draft version is to be subject to a three month public consultation period.

| Interesting article wg. This is such a complex subject and the debates will go on for years yet without actually reaching any conclusions. But I think its a terribly sad situation when someone is diagnosed with an illness that they know is going to reduce them to a state where they need 24-hour care and they're now allowed to have any say in how its dealt with. | |

| Is it bad that I had a little giggle at suicide being illegal? I mean if you succeed *like my stepdad did* they cant exactly arrest you for it. Or is there a prison somewhere full of the ghosts of suicide victims? | |
