The severed head of a Shetland pony has been found in County Durham, a week after the animal was stolen.
Six-year-old Trigger, was reported stolen from an allotment area near the Frog and Ferret pub in Spennymoor, on Wednesday 9 November.
His owner was out looking for him on Tuesday, when she found his severed head on a track 10-minutes walk from the allotment.
Durham Police's Paul Colman said the owner was "extremely distressed".
"We are carrying out extensive inquiries to find the person responsible for this," he said.
